A couple of months ago, I was asked to host the Mighty Hatters end of season dinner – no pressure! As a massive Luton fan, this was such a massive privilege, but equally, the most nervous I have ever been before presenting an event. It doesn’t matter how many I have done, when you know people you’ve known a while have put their faith in you, it gives an added element … almost like doing a reading at a friends wedding (kind of!)
Anyway, I’m pleased to say, it went well! And I absolutely loved it! So much fun, from getting Steve McNulty up on stage and playing a very silly game of heads and tails, to asking Elliot Justham if he has a favourite pair (I went red, everyone else laughed!)
The Q&A session with the wonderful coaching team of John Still, Terry Harris and Hakan Hayrettin was the best part though. Every time I speak to them, I feel like our club is in safe hands with passionate football men who have genuinely fallen in love with Luton Town Football Club. An absolute pleasure.
The funniest part of the evening was Jake Howells coming up to me during dinner to say there was an additional auction lot – namely an unsuspecting Pelly Ruddock’s blazer. The players had all signed it and when it came to bidding – people were not very forthcoming, so I enlisted the enigmatic Pelly’s help on stage and it went down a storm! He had already taken over the mic earlier in the evening to canvas the squad’s opinion on which Premier League player they would love to play at Kenilworth Road.
All in all, it was a fantastic evening and one I will never forget and was so proud to do.
